Five on Friday . . .

How about a little Five on Friday . . . five random things that make me happy!

1.  Petey Rascals turned 14 yesterday . . . that's roughly the equivalent of 98 human years . . . you're welcome to the math challenged!  Dang . . . he looks good.  This guy seriously has my heart.
The many faces of Petey . . . he likes his sleep . . . and Jeep rides!
2.  I absolutely love having a Boy Scout around!
Oh Lord Jesus, it's a fire!
When it's cold outside, my boys fight over who gets to make the fire.  I literally don't lift a finger and bah bam . . . a warm fire appears and is maintained until bedtime.

3.  Venus Fly Traps . . . what kid doesn't want one of these?
Kyle and Amanda had to have them after the neighbor boys got some . . . off to Home Depot we went.  I remember my dad letting me get one when I was a kid.  I also remember thinking how lame it ended up being, and it died.  I predict the same outcome, but I can't deny the experience.

4.  I am super stoked about legitimately being able to do the Jeep wave.
Not the easiest photo to take while driving . . . safety first!
What is that you ask?  Apparently when you drive a Jeep and you see another Jeep coming in the opposite direction, you do the "Jeep wave" or lift a couple of fingers off the steering wheel in a peace type sign.  I was so excited the first time I got one . . . I kind of felt like a poser doing it the first few times, but now it's like totally like my fave.

5.  Field trips with my kids . . . it would make me super sad if I had to miss a field trip!  Thanks to awesome neighbors and friends, I got to join Kyle on his 5th grade field trip to Ruby Falls and Chickamauga Battlefield!  Getzy was off gallivanting in Vegas for March Madness so poor little old me had to stay home and do the mom thing . . . I jest because I love this stuff!
I can't believe I've never been here before . . . it was gorgeous and not too far over the border into Tennessee.  It's an underground water fall . . . you take an elevator down and then do a .4 mile easy hike to the falls.  They do a music and light show, and it's amazing!

I chaperoned the best group of boys, and of course we were the first ones in line after our tour guide Doug . . . said with your most southern drawl.
He was so hysterical and said the funniest stuff in seriously the slowest, most southern drawl ever.  He would tell the kids to "cool their jets" while we waited.  And he would constantly say "alright, alright" and "mmm hmmm" like the Billy Bob Thornton character from Sling Blade. He made the whole tour so much more fun!

Next we visited the Chickamauga Battlefield where we watched an intense movie on the battle fought there and enjoyed a presentation of what a Civil War soldier would wear and carry.  After sitting for so long, the kids got to run around the battle field like fools and pose with the cannons.  Good times!
I'm so glad I got to share this experience with Kyle . . . making memories is what it's all about in my world!

Happy Friday!!

  1. I love this post. Dogs, boys who make fire!!! The jeep wave is so funny isn't it? But the 2 finger wave at the top of the wheel is also a standard truck thing here in the south. Particularly pick ups. This I learned from a man with a truck whom I subsequently spent a lot of hours driving around in so I can vouch for it. It's so cool... like yeah... we kinfolk:)

  2. Wow, 14! That's awesome! What do yu feed your doggies?

  3. Awww happy birthday Petey! Doesn't look at day over 8. :)
